Havening Techniques® – A game-changer in the treatment of trauma

‘Havening Techniques’ (also known as Delta Wave techniques) is a healing modality that helps individuals overcome traumatic experiences in their lives and the consequences of those events, often experienced as negative thoughts, feelings or behaviours.

Havening Techniques are part of a broader group of therapies known as psycho-sensory techniques that use sensory input to change thought, mood or behaviour.

Havening Tehcniques were developed by American Neuroscientists and brothers, Dr. Ronald and Dr. Steven Ruden. Led by Dr. Ronald Ruden, the pair set out to discover how and where trauma is encoded in the brain, at an electro-chemical level. Unsurprisingly they discovered that trauma is encoded in the Amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for triggering our fight or flight response.

The Amygdala is an ancient structure that can be traced back as far as the dinosaurs. It’s purpose is to regulate the release of the hormones adrenalin and cortisol into the blood stream in response to threat. It is these hormones that cause all the symptoms we are so familiar with experiencing when we are in our fight or flight mode: pounding heart, faster breathing, churning stomach, light-headedness, sweats etc. All these physical changes are a result of the body’s efforts to drive more oxygenated blood to the muscles in order to prepare for fighting or fleeing.

If you were to design a human being from scratch, it would make sense for trauma to be encoded in the Amygdala. The reason is so that following a traumatic experience, the amygdala can trigger your fight or flight response even faster the next time a similar situation is encountered… From an evolutionary perspective, learning from trauma and being able to spot threat earlier the next time a similar situation is encountered is an advantage.

But, not only did the Doctors Ruden discover where trauma is encoded, they discovered what it looks like at an electro-chemical level, and most excitingly of all, how to un-encode it. Havening Techniques are the method they developed to un-encode trauma. In simple terms, Havening Techniques, use touch to generate delta waves in the brain. Delta waves are the very low frequency brain waves we experience in deep sleep, in deep relaxation, in meditation… and in Hypnosis!

Delta waves are generated automatically in response to touch delivered to the hands, arms and face (although, at Transformative we elect to use only hands and arms). Delta waves are produced in much the same way reflexes work in the body, so when ‘Havening touch’ is applied correctly, the production of delta waves is automatic and inevitable.

At Transformative we don’t see ‘disorders’. When people come to us experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, panic attacks, fears and phobias, insomnia or any other related conditions, we see perfectly designed human beings whose minds and bodies are working exactly as they should in order to protect them from the threats their mind perceives, often as a result of past events.

At Transformative we use Havening Techniques, in conjunction with Clinical Hypnotherapy, to identify and heal those events, situations and experiences that people have encountered in the past, either first hand, or as a witness, and that have hurt them. We can then reprogramme the mind, and in particular, the subconscious mind, removing the power of these events and setting them free.

FAQs

Do Havening Techniques involve touch?
Yes, we use touch applied to the hands and arms to generate delta waves in the brain. The protocols we follow will take you through what’s involved in detail and we will require written and verbal consent to proceed. If you would prefer to apply your own ‘Havening Touch’ this is also possible. This technique is known as “Directed Self-Havening”.

Is Havening used only for healing past trauma?
Whilst it is, as we have said, a game-changer in the treatment and resolution of past trauma, Havening has many other healing applications. These include the general down-regulation of psychological discomfort, the release of trapped emotions, affirmation work and outcome work. And, because it mirrors Clinical Hypnotherapy in that it induces a state of deep relaxation through the generation of Delta Waves, it can also be used as a vehicle for the introduction of hypnotic suggestions.

Can I do Havening myself?
Yes. As part of your session we will teach you how to “Self-Haven”. This gives you an unbeatable tool that you can use at any time in the future to bring you out of emotional discomfort, whatever the cause, and back into your ‘thinking brain’. As you may know, when you are either hyper-aroused (anxiety, panic, anger) or hypo-aroused (depression, lethargy, indifference) you are not able to access your full problem-solving capabilities. Whatever challenges you face in life, it’s always better to face them as calmly as you can and with your full cognitive capabilities engaged.

Wellness Programmes

Wellness Programmes Image

Wellness Programmes – A direct, positive impact

It is both a cliché and a truth to say that your people are your most valuable asset. You ignore their wellbeing at your peril, but conversely, paying attention to, and investing in, their wellbeing will pay your organisation dividends. Well designed Wellness Programmes can have a direct positive impact on your organisation at many levels. But organisations are no longer investing just because of the links between a happier healthier team and higher productivity, less absenteeism and lower staff churn. It’s because organisations of all kinds recognise that they have a responsibility to ensure that the people they employ are happy and healthy.

Transformative offers both group and one-to-one sessions to address the wellbeing of your people. The first step is to undertake a discovery session with you in order to understand the make-up of your teams and the challenges they face. This is in order to design Wellness Programmes that will work for you and for your people and that will deliver the outcomes that you want. This is important because, as with everything we undertake at Transformative, it is critical for us that we are able to deliver measurable business outcomes for our clients in all the areas that we work in… Wellness Programmes are no exception!

We focus on resilience, stress management, energy, sleep and nutrition. We can also help your people overcome barriers and ‘blockers’ such as negative beliefs, limiting thoughts or lack of confidence, using group training sessions or one-to-one programmes such as Hypno-Coaching. Either of which are always both enjoyable and effective. See the testimonials at the bottom of our Home Page.

Transformative’s Wellness Programmes can be offered as a stand-alone service or as part of a broader Corporate Wellness programme that might also include Resilience Training, Stress Management, Hypno-Coaching, Team-Building and EAPs. Contact us for more information and pricing or complete the form at the bottom of this page to request a call-back or a FREE consultation.

FAQs

What does the term ‘Wellness’ mean in a corporate setting?
It’s a term that has becoming increasingly important to leadership teams around the world. It is clear that in today’s 24/7 connected world where much is demanded of working people, it can be all too easy for them to adopt unhealthy habits, whether related to sleep, work-life balance, stress, nutrition or something else. Quite rightly, modern organisations are realising that it is counter-productive to have high expectations of their staff without delivering equally high quality support for their well-being, and that is where Wellness Programmes can come in.

What benefits could the introduction of corporate wellness programmes bring to your organisation?
Happy, healthy staff are more productive because they are likely to be more focused and effective during working hours and they are less likely to take sick leave. If they are happy in their work and feel valued by their leadership they will also be less likely to move on. Often staff costs can be one of the highest overheads an organisation bears… Increasing productivity, minimising sick leave and reducing staff churn with its costly recruitment processes and impact to the business will directly and positively impact your numbers. But regardless of these benefits, more and more organisations are recognising their responsibility to ensure their people are happy and healthy.

How does it work?
Any Wellness Programme we implement is tailor-made to each individual organisation because every organisation is unique. We begin be undertaking a discovery session, partly in order to understand the level of input required to make an improvement and partly to benchmark the position of your company and its people against the future successes we will deliver. We then design a combination of group and individual wellness programmes that will address your unique requirements. Upon your approval, we then implement the programmes, checking in at agreed intervals to monitor progress and measure results.

Stress Management

Stress Management Image

Stress Management – It’s time to tackle public enemy No.1

It may sound strange but at Transformative we’re all about the Stress! It will come as no surprise that for more and more individuals and organisations, stress management is becoming a top priority.

We have two million year old brains, and we have the same response to stress in the modern day workplace, classroom or home as we would have had when fleeing from a sabre-tooth tiger!

But we are not designed to live in a constant state of stress. If you are running from a sabre-tooth tiger, how much of your available resources would you want to put into that effort… 100% of course! We are designed to put everything into that fight for survival… Amongst other things, the stress hormones coursing through our veins shut down our immune system and divert resources away from our digestive system (we will only need those if we survive). They direct all available oxygen and energy to our muscles and away from our brains and other organs in order to run or fight.

Our minds and bodies are designed to respond dramatically to short stressful events and either to survive them or not. If we subject ourselves to prolonged stressful situations, the effect on us can be devastating.

We are only just beginning to understand the full extent of the damage caused to the mind and body when we experience prolonged stress… Research tells us that the stress hormone, cortisol, has now become Enemy No.1… Scientists have known for years that prolonged elevation of cortisol levels interferes with learning and memory, lowers immune function and bone density, causes weight gain, increases blood pressure and he risk of heart disease and can cause serious mental conditions such as anxiety, panic attacks and depression… But the list goes on and on… Stress has far too many potential negative consequences to cover here.

So, what can we do to address the epidemic of stress in our modern lives?

At Transformative we have developed a unique stress management programme that focusses on three core areas in order to reduce stress and restore balance and harmony in our minds and bodies:

  1. Physical – We look at the relationship between food, exercise and stress and how foods can create more stress or alleviate it and how the right amount of movement and exercise for you can positively affect your mind, body, and spirit.
  2. Mental – We look at how we can be programmed to find particular situations (often unique to us!) stressful, why we are programmed this way and how to change that mental programming.
  3. Practical – We look at healthy habits that reduce stress in daily life, whether in the workplace, classroom or at home.

We work with teams or one-to-one and we tailor our Stress Management programmes to the teams or individuals we are working with. After all, everybody is physically and mentally different and everyone has different stress triggers.

Wellness Webinars

Wellness Webinars

Wellness Webinars – Direct and effective support for your people

With all of us having been through such an intense period of upheaval and change and with so much uncertainty and change still ahead of us, it is now more important than ever that organisations support their staff in every way possible. At Transformative we have developed a series of unique wellness webinars that directly address mental wellbeing and provide practical tools and advice that your people can use both in these challenging times, and into the future.

Over the past few months we have conducted a number of surveys of staff, particularly of office staff working remotely. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have surveyed well over 1,000 individuals in total. One question we asked was “What stresses you most about long term remote working?”. By far, the top two answers given by remote working staff were: “Lower quality contact with colleagues”, (28% of respondents) and “isolation”(19% of respondents).

Instinctively, I’m sure we all know that the mental health and wellbeing of long term remote working staff is at risk. However, this doesn’t make our survey results any easier to read. Luckily there is a lot we can do to help.

Here is a selection of some of the wellness webinars we have available. All are one hour long:

  • Resilience Whilst Long-Term Remote Working
This session is a new session we have recently developed specifically to support people who are long-term remote working. We talk about what long-term remote working has been like for all of us. We discuss what we can do to build our resilience whilst long-term remote working, including practical tips, and talk about what we can do to support each other.
  • Developing Healthy Sleep Habits for Physical & Mental Wellbeing
This session is dedicated to the easiest activity we can all do that has the greatest potential health benefit. We talk about why sleep is so important. Introduce the latest information on the ‘gut-brain axis’ and its importance to our general wellbeing, and go through what a healthy sleep routine looks like with lots of tips and tricks.
  • Nutrition for Physical & Mental Wellbeing
This session can be a companion to the session on sleep or a stand alone. In this session we go through some healthy diet myth-busting, then revisit the gut-brain axis from a dietary perspective. Sleep is the best single thing we can do for our brains. Healthy nutrition is obviously the best thing we can do for our guts. But this session isn’t just about nutrition, it’s also about developing healthy eating habits generally… And it includes a run-through of five strategies for optimising your mental wellbeing through healthy food habits. It’s a particularly interactive session that receives great feedback.
  • Personal Change-Management as a Cornerstone or Resilience
In this session we look at ‘change’ as a key aspect of resilience. We discuss what’s changed for us all over the past 12 months. Look at why we find change so difficult from the perspective of the subconscious mind. We then speculate on what further changes we can expect, in this period of extraordinary change and upheaval, and go through an interactive exercise to help us manage that change more easily.

Transformative’s Wellness Webinars can be offered as a stand-alone service or as part of a broader Corporate Wellness programme that might also include: Wellness Programmes, Resilience Training, Stress Management, Hypno-Coaching, Team-Building and EAPs. Contact us for more information and pricing or complete the form at the bottom of this page to request a call-back or a FREE consultation.

FAQs

Can Transformative’s wellness webinars be tailored?
Yes, absolutely. Perhaps you need major adjustments, such as angling the webinar to take account of your people’s specific challenges. Perhaps you need key company messaging woven in. Or perhaps you simply want to include some important information, such as EAP service contact details. Whatever your requirements are we are happy to tailor our webinars to make them as effective as possible for your people.

Are your wellness webinars stand alone, or can they be delivered as a series?
Most of our clients book us to deliver a series of webinars and many of our webinars work together to build into an overall story. However, almost all of our webinars are also designed to work as a standalone, if that is what you would prefer.

Does the list above represent all of your available wellness webinars?
Absolutely not. The above list is a sample only. We have a wide range of content, particularly in different aspects of resilience… Contact us today and we would be more than happy to take you through the options that might best suit your organisation.

Hypno-Coaching

Hypno-Coaching Image

Hypno-Coaching – A powerful combination of executive coaching and clinical hypnotherapy techniques

Tim France, Founder of Transformative, is an experienced speaker, mentor and executive coach with over 30 years experience in the corporate world in both London and Dublin. Many of those years were spent in leadership and senior management roles at international organisations. Tim is also a fully qualified clinical hypnotherapist and member of the Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapists of Ireland (ICHI). As part of Transformative’s Wellness offering for businesses, Transformative is therefore able to offer one-to-one Hypno-Coaching… But what is Hypno-Coaching?

Hypno-Coaching is a combination of conventional executive coaching techniques and clinical hypnotherapy techniques. It is powerful, fast and very effective. We like to think of it as executive coaching on steroids, because through hypnotherapy techniques we can access the subconscious mind directly and make permanent changes that will help you in your working life. We can  use clinical hypnotherapy techniques to increase your resilience, improve your response to stressful situations, boost your confidence levels, enhance your presentation and public speaking skills or sharpen your decision-making and negotiation skills. We can also use them to remove ‘blockers’ such as negative beliefs, limiting thoughts, old emotional residue, physical trauma and even fears and phobias.

The benefits of this process are that changes can be made very successfully and very quickly. A study by Dr. A. Barrios published in American health magazine showed that hypnotherapy was more effective and faster acting than both psychoanalysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Hypno-Coaching Comparison Image

We can generally successfully affect the positive changes that many people want to achieve within just six sessions. The changes are permanent and you will start noticing and feeling a difference even before your last session with us.

For more information on Hypno-Coaching and how it works, see our Hypno-Coaching and Mental Health in the Workplace blog post.

Transformative’s Hypno-Coaching service can be offered as a stand-alone service or as part of a broader Corporate Wellness Programme that might also include Wellness Programmes, Resilience Training, Stress Management, Team-Building and EAPs. Contact us for more information and pricing or complete the form at the bottom of this page to request a call-back or a FREE consultation.

FAQs

Will the Hypnotherapist be able control me?
No. Clinical Hypnotherapy is a 100% consent state. Your hypno-coach may make suggestions to you during your session, but you always have the choice as to whether you accept or reject those suggestions. Your coach will spend lots of time consulting with you during your hypo-coaching sessions to ensure that they are focused on the changes that you want to make. It is therefore highly unlikely that any suggestions will be made that you do not 100% welcome.

What kind of changes can Hypno-Coaching make?
We can make all kinds of changes including treating more serious conditions such as anxiety and depression, but within the working environment we find that most people enjoy working to increase their resilience, improving their responses to stressful situations, boosting their confidence levels, enhancing their presentation and public speaking skills or sharpening their decision-making and negotiation skills.

Are the sessions confidential?
Yes. All our sessions are 100% confidential. If your company is paying for your sessions as part of a wider corporate wellness or resilience training package they will obviously know that your sessions are taking place, but it will be up to you whether or not you share the content of your sessions with anybody else. If you engage us as a private client, nobody but yourself need know that you are working with us or what we have worked on.

For more information on Clinical Hypnotherapy and how it works, see our Hypnotherapy page.

EAP

EAP Image

Our EAP services – tailored to the needs of your organisation

Transformative’s EAP (Employee Assistance Programme) is an EAP with a difference. Most EAPs offered by health insurance companies are payable in advance to a fixed fee based on the number of employees to be covered. At Transformative our EAPs are pay-as-you-go. You only pay for the services that your employees use, at the time they use them.

The other major difference is that you can decide what proportion of the support you pay for. You can decide to cover the whole cost or any percentage of the cost, with your employees covering the balance. You can even categorise treatments, so that the costs for some (work-related stress, for instance) are fully covered, whereas others (weight loss programmes or quit smoking, for instance) are only partially subsidised.

Transformative’s EAP services are delivered through the Transformative Mind and Body Wellbeing Centre in the heart of Wicklow Town. The Centre offers a range of therapeutic services delivered by highly qualified and experienced therapists designed to help people of all ages and backgrounds and in all situations.

At the beautiful, restful clinic in the heart of Wicklow Town, the Transformative team provides psychotherapy and counselling, as well as acupuncture and hypnotherapy. The clinic hosts six psychotherapists, all qualified experts and members of the IACP (the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), two clinical hypnotherapists, both members of the ICHI (Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapists of Ireland) and one acupuncturist.

The Team delivers highly effective programmes and treatments for work-related stress and anxiety, as well as for depression, general anxiety, panic attacks and fears and phobias. Individual members of the team also have specialisms, and additional qualifications, in couple counselling, PTSD and eating disorders.

Under a Transformative EAP, your staff have the option of being treated at the Transformative Mind and Body Wellbeing Centre (address and directions on our Contact page), in your offices, if facilities allow, or even in the comfort of their own homes.

Our EAP services are tailored to the needs of your organisation. We can offer as many or as few services as you and your staff require and we can agree whether individual services are to be fully or part funded by your organisation. In order for your staff to access services easily we establish an online portal, at no additional charge, via which your employees can select the service(s) they need and apply in confidence without compromising robust governance of the scheme.

Any employee using Transformative’s EAP services is guaranteed kindness, empathy and understanding from the Transformative team and as with all of our treatments they are also guaranteed complete confidentiality.

Contact us using the form below for more information.

Transformative’s EAP services can be offered as a stand-alone or as part of a broader Corporate Wellness programme that might also include Wellness Programmes, Resilience Training, Stress Management, Hypno-Coaching, and Team-Building. Contact us for more information and pricing or complete the form at the bottom of this page to request a call-back or a FREE consultation.

FAQs

How do your EAP services differ from the insurers’ offerings?
There are two main differences:
i. The first difference is that most insurers operate an advanced payment model at a fixed rate based on the number of staff to be covered. At Transformative we operate a pay-as-you-go model in which you only pay for the treatments that your staff use at the time they use them.
ii. The Second is that you can decide whether you part or fully fund those treatments. This is entirely up to you and will be discussed fully during our consultation with you. Many of our clients like to offer a range of services, some of which are fully subsidised (work-related conditions such as work-related stress and anxiety, for instance) and some of which are part-subsidised (more personal wellness-related conditions such as weight loss and quit smoking, for instance). We can set your scheme up so that all services are subsidised to the same level or create a number of categories of service with different levels of subsidy.

If you operate a pay-as-you-go system, how can we estimate staff take up and therefore the cost of the scheme?
According to the 2013 ‘Market Watch’ report from EAPA (The UK Employee Assistance Professional Association) in the UK, average take-up is about 10% of employees offered assistance, with 16% take-up considered high usage. We find this to be approximately accurate and can help you estimate costs based on this industry standard.

How do our staff access the EAP?
We create an online portal, at no additional charge, that lists all the services we agree are to be made available and that enables staff to select and apply for the services they need in confidence.

How long do your EAP services take to set up?
Initial consultation to scheme go-live can be as short as two to four weeks. All our services and experts are already in place. All we need to do during our consultation with you is to agree exactly which services you wish to offer your staff and the levels of subsidy you wish to apply. We then set up your employee’s dedicated online portal, which takes approximately one week to implement.

Resilience Training

Resilience Training Palm Trees Image

Resilience Training – Understand, Nurture & Develop.

Our Resilience Training programme is unique. We focus on explaining the science of stress and resilience in an accessible and interactive way. Over the course of the programme we share practical, proven tips and tools for dealing with the two main stressors we all encounter in the workplace “sudden impact” and “sustained attrition”. We can also go into more depth about our subconscious triggers and why it is that two people in the same situation can behave completely differently and experience very different stress levels. We can share relaxation and insomnia-busting techniques and even build in time for a guided relaxation session… A real favourite with our clients!

We have delivered our popular Resilience Training programme at this stage to many organisations and each time it’s different… That’s because we tailor our programme to your people, to your organisation and to your needs.

We can easily tailor the length of your Resilience Training programme… So whether you’d like a one off or a series, a half or a full day, or whether you’d just like an hour or couple of hours here and there, we can adjust our content and delivery accordingly.

And we can tailor things to your group size too… Maybe you’d like us to give a talk to a larger group or a more interactive workshop-style session to a smaller group, it’s no problem to us.

N.B. If many of your staff are currently working from home, we can provide online resilience sessions for up to 100 individuals at a time via our video conferencing facilities!

The most important thing for you to know about us is that we listen first and then we make our recommendations and put together the best content for your stage in the workplace wellness journey, for your objectives and for your people.

Here’s what a recent client said about our Resilience Training programme:

“The training covered how the mind works and why some people are triggered in certain ways in stressful situations and how when people are triggered their ability to respond can be diminished. The training also provided the team with practical tools and coping strategies for dealing with stressful situations. The material delivered was fresh and brought an original perspective on some established thinking. What I was most impressed with however, was that Transformative had taken care to ensure that it fitted well with our company values and messaging. This could only have been achieved by excellent listening at the planning stage and a willingness to understand our culture here. My team have requested that we get Transformative back shortly and further evolve the learning. Personally I could not rate this training highly enough and I thank Tim & his Team at Transformative for a really impactful session.”
Senior Manager, Microsoft.

Transformative’s Resilience Training workshops can be offered as a stand-alone service or as part of a broader workplace wellness Programme that might also include Wellness Programmes, Stress Management, Hypno-Coaching, Team-Building and EAPs.

Team-Building

Team Building Ants

Team-Building – Vital for all motivated, successful teams

At Transformative we know that the health of a company depends on its people working together as a team. As Henry Ford said, “If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.” We also know how easy it is for teams to become disunited and ineffective over time, often without there being any obvious cause. That’s why our Team Building service forms a central part of our suite our Corporate Wellness services.

Team building is vital for all motivated, successful teams. It’s important to learn how to communicate clearly within your team, resolve conflict, and work to the strengths of the team. Our workshops involve plenty of discussion, team building exercises, and communication activities.

The first step in arranging any team building workshop, event or programme, however, is for us to meet with you to discuss your exact requirements so that we can tailor the content to your, and your team’s needs. Our experienced people can work with groups of any size and can arrange to work either on or off site. When it comes to the content of your team building workshop, event or programme, we have developed a wide range of effective experiences. We can deliver content with a pure team building focus, or prepare something more educational, problem-solving, resilience or wellness based. Simply talk to us and we can discuss what would work best to achieve your specific objectives.

FAQs

What do Transformative’s Team Building services include?
We have found that the key to any initiative is to tailor it exactly to your individual organisation’s needs. That’s why we see our initial consultation with you as vital. It is at this meeting that we can learn about your organisation, its challenges, its structure, the characteristics of its teams and the personalities of key individuals. We can then ensure that the initiative we plan for you achieves the objectives you need it to.

Why are Team Building workshops, events or programmes ever required?
It is easy to assume that your teams are working effectively and efficiently, or that because they have done so in the past that this will always be the case. We have found that teams can be finely-balanced organisms and that it doesn’t take much to destabilise them. We can also attest to the fact that conversely it needn’t take much input to get things back on track and running smoothly.

Why should I invest in Team Building?
The success of every organisation relies on the effectiveness and efficiency of its teams. Investment in team-building can therefore have a direct and immediate effect on your bottom line and can have wide ranging business benefits including increased productivity, reduced absenteeism, reduced staff churn, an improvement in staff morale and motivation and a reduction in staff stress levels.

Anxiety

Anxiety Image

Anxiety: A modern epidemic.

Anxiety can take many forms: general, social, exam, public speaking, financial, or for apparently no reason at all. It can be debilitating, limiting and difficult to control. It can also form the platform for other chronic conditions such as insomnia, IBS and fibromyalgia, for instance. In the modern western world with all its pressures and demands, it has reached near epidemic proportions… Particularly worrisome is the explosion of anxiety-related disorders amongst our children, teens and young adults.

At Transformative we tackle the root cause of the problem, using special techniques to peel away the layers and discover why certain situations, events or people can trigger anxiety in you. We can help you to understand why you feel these feelings, why they can feel so overwhelming and how to think differently about yourself and your life experiences in order to regain control. Using treatments such as clinical hypnotherapy, we can even help you ‘re-programme’ your mind, enabling you to enjoy everything life has to offer anxiety-free.

We are specialists in the treatment of anxiety and related conditions. And there are a great many related, conditions! As well as insomnia, IBS and fibromyalgia mentioned above, there are also Panic Attacks, PTSD, Fears & Phobias and even Depression.

Everybody is unique and every condition is different, so the first step is a brief FREE telephone consultation in which we can assess your particular issue(s) and recommend the best course of treatment for you.

You will be amazed at how quickly and easily your condition can be treated. Lasting change is just a phone call away. Complete the form below to book your FREE telephone consultation.

Hypnotherapy: Learn the power of the subconscious mind.

Tim France, Founder of Transformative, is a fully qualified clinical hypnotherapist and member of the Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapists of Ireland (ICHI). Transformative specialises in using clinical hypnotherapy to treat conditions such as: anxiety, panic disorder, fears and phobias, and depression. We also offer a very effective hypnobirthing programme for expectant mothers.

What is clinical hypnotherapy and how does it work? Well, firstly, did you know that we have three different minds?

  1. Our unconscious mind:
This looks after all the automatic functions in our body… Our breathing, our heart-beat, we shiver when we get cold, we sweat when we get hot etc.
  2. Our conscious mind:
This is where logic, reason, decision-making, judgement and our will-power and short-term memory reside.
  3. Our subconscious mind:
This is where our habits, beliefs, feelings and associations exist, along with our long-term memory and most important of all, for hypnotherapy, our ‘protector’.

The reason it can be hard for us to make changes in our lives: stop over-eating or eating the wrong kinds of foods, stop feeling anxious, overcome a fear, is because our subconscious mind is programmed to be the way we are. It can be very hard to change this programming and we often resort to trying to ‘over-ride’ it using our will-power, which is very difficult and often doomed to failure.

Let us explain why. At some point in our lives we learnt that fire was dangerous and that even though it is fascinating and pretty and looks like it would be soft to the touch, that it would hurt (a lot!) if we put our hand into it. At the point we learnt this, that programming was burnt into the ‘hard drive’ of our subconscious mind. The ‘protector’ in our subconscious mind knows that fire is dangerous and it won’t let us go near enough to it for us to burn ourselves. We would fight very hard indeed if someone tried to force us to hold our hand in a fire… However, if our house was on fire, and (God forbid!) someone we loved was trapped inside, our ‘will-power’ could temporarily overcome our ‘programming’ and we might be able to rush into the burning building to save our loved one.

That is what our will-power is designed for. A temporary over-ride, and that’s why it is so difficult to make permanent, lasting change to ourselves using will-power, which comes from a different part of our mind and that sets up a conflict between our conscious and subconscious mind, that the ‘protector’ within our subconscious mind will nearly always win… Self preservation, our ‘protector’, trumps everything!

But what if we could quieten our conscious mind and make a connection with the deep programming in our subconscious mind in order to make permanent, lasting changes to that programming? That’s what clinical hypnotherapy does. And what if that process was a wonderfully relaxing, peaceful process during which you were in complete control of all the changes being suggested to you and could say “yes” or “no” to them all?

Clinical hypnotherapy is a wonderful, powerful treatment that through a very pleasant and progressive relaxation can access the subconscious mind and help you make the permanent changes you want in your life, whether that’s to lose weight, remove panic attacks or overcome your fear of public speaking… Due to the deep relaxation of mind and body involved, a session of clinical hypnotherapy will not only tackle your issue but will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

A study of psychotherapy literature by Dr A. Barrios, which was published in 1970 and originally featured in the The Psychotherapy Journal of the American Psychiatric Association showed some impressive findings. After surveying over 2000 journal articles, Dr. Alfred Barrios came up with the following recovery rates: 38% using psychoanalysis, 72% using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and 93% using hypnotherapy. So, out of the three different methods it is obvious that hypnotherapy is the most effective. However, the length of time it took to achieve these results is even more significant. Psychoanalysis had a 38% recovery rate after 600 sessions and approximately 12 years. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy had a 72% recovery rate after 22 sessions and approximately 6 months. Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, had a 93% recovery rate after just 6 sessions and approximately 1-2 months.

We use techniques and procedures here at Transformative that achieve the same results in 3 to 5 sessions on average.

FAQs

How does Hypnotherapy work?
It works by quieting the conscious mind through deep, and very pleasant(!) relaxation, which allows the clinical hypnotherapist to access the subconscious mind and to make suggestions that can remove barriers, process painful past experiences and  make permanent, positive change.

Are you asleep in hypnosis?
You are never asleep in hypnosis. Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation in which the conscious temporarily takes a back seat and the subconscious mind comes to the fore. You will feel both relaxed and more alert than ever before, which is an incredible experience. Experts estimate that in the state of hypnosis you are between two and three hundred percent more alert than you are during normal consciousness.

What if I don’t wake up?
You can’t “wake up” from hypnosis, because you are never asleep! You can ’emerge’ from hypnosis and the hypnotherapist will help you do this is in a peaceful, natural way that will leave you feeling rested, alert and relaxed. You can emerge yourself from hypnosis at any time during a session simply by thinking “I want to emerge”, but most people remain in hypnosis throughout the duration of a session simply because it is such an enjoyable experience.
